Dog Island
Guemes Island is within the historical territory of the Samish Nation. Samish people were displaced to the island where they raised "Salish Wool Dogs," thus the name Dog Island.
Guemes Island is our home base, where we live with our dogs, three of which were born and raised on Dog Island.
